REFLECTIONS: A GC2 SUMMIT ON RESPONDING TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT, ABUSE, AND VIOLENCE

A one-day evangelical conversation on December 13, 2018 to challenge the church to address sexual violence, harrassment, and abuse in all of its forms for Christ, his people, and his kingdom.

OBJECTIVE #1: EQUIPPING CHURCH LEADERS

It’s past time that every church develop a policy and plan to deal with sexual violence and to care properly for the flock of God.

OBJECTIVE #2: GIVING VOICE TO SURVIVORS

No longer can we allow silence to prevail. Each woman, man, boy, and girl who has experienced sexual victimization must be heard and cared for, unequivocally.

OBJECTIVE #3: CHALLENGING TOWARDS A BETTER WAY

The door has been cracked open to truth. The only way forward is for the Body of Christ to fully open the door and to allow healing to begin.

SPEAKERS

We invited evangelical leaders who care about these issues. Many are survivors; all are concerned about abuse in churches. We recognize there are many great people who care about this issue, but we tried to balance our speakers by having more women than men, multiple survivors, and a racially diverse group of speakers. We think it is important to hear the voices of survivors and of those who partner with them. So, we know that there are many wonderful people who could also speak, but we are deeply thankful for those who donated their time to speak up in this essential moment.

Studies have shown that up to 81% of women and 43% of men have experienced some form of sexual harassment—either verbal or physical—at some point in their lifetime.

In the age of #metoo and #churchtoo, how can evangelical Christians take an honest look in the mirror, and also protect women, men, and children survivors?

The Reflections GC2 Summit is a one-day evangelical conversation which will challenge pastors, leaders, and lay Christians to address the very real tragedy in our churches and to begin the healing process. We will bring together Christian leaders today to address what the Bible says about this tragedy, the destruction of silence, how to protect those who are vulnerable and victimized, the role of accountability in leadership, and much more.

DETAILS

The Reflections GC2 Summit will be held December 13, 2018 at Edman Chapel on the campus of Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). The event will run from 9AM – 5PM CST. Tickets available for both in-person and livestream. The event is sponsored by the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College in partnership with the Wheaton College School of Psychology, Counseling, & Family Therapy.
